Linham Barns is a tranquil rural retreat, created by Claire and Ollie as a place to slow down and enjoy the surrounding Devon landscape and coastline. While the barn interiors were beautifully renovated, the garden needed careful attention to reach its full potential.

Working from a thoughtful design by Jamie of Edit Landscapes, an inspiring plantsman and designer, we brought the vision to life with sensitivity to the site’s agricultural history and rural setting. The garden now provides spaces for gathering, relaxation, and play, while remaining robust and low maintenance.

A derelict barn was transformed into a sheltered outdoor room, centred around a fire pit and softened with climbers along tension wires. The footprint of a former greenhouse became a pétanque court, compacted with self-binding gravel for subtle, playful use. The main terrace was expanded in locally sourced Yorkstone for outdoor dining, framed with drought-tolerant planting, while behind the house a sunken gathering area edged with native wildflowers offers a quiet spot for reflection on a bespoke five-metre mild steel and Accoya timber bench.

The result is a garden that feels natural and timeless, evolving through the seasons and perfectly complementing Claire and Ollie’s vision of a calm, welcoming retreat.
