This coastal garden was designed and built for a newly constructed property set back from Slapton Sands. The brief was to create a sheltered retreat that responds to the exposed coastal conditions while complementing the clean, contemporary architecture of the house.
The design uses simple, well-defined lines and a restrained material palette to echo the building’s form, creating a strong visual connection between house and garden. Carefully selected coastal planting softens the structure of the space while remaining resilient to wind, salt, and shifting light conditions.
Fresh, durable materials were chosen for both their longevity and their ability to weather gracefully in the maritime environment. Together, these elements create a calm, low-maintenance garden that offers protection from the elements while maintaining an open, relaxed coastal character—an inviting outdoor retreat that feels both purposeful and understated.
